CTRD Trust Community Hospital Project in Partnership with Raleigh Society Singapore

In partnership with Raleigh Society Singapore, CRTD commenced construction of the CTRD Trust Community Hospital in Devala, which is located in the Pandalur Block of the Nilgiri District in the state of Tamil Nadu.

CTRD Trust is committed to promoting health issues to tribal and other disadvantaged rural communities in our working area, and this community based hospital will greatly facilitate this process.

Currently there are no proper hospital facilities in the Gudalur or Pandalur Blocks of the Nilgiri District, and people in need of specialized treatment are forced to travel to the nearest hospital located in either Sultan Battry or Ooty.

Thanks to this project a multi-facility hospital will now be within easy reach of communities from the surrounding area, providing an extremely valuable and much needed medical resource.

The construction of the hospital took place in May 2009, with the efforts of sixty people from Raleigh Society Singapore, built in two fifteen day phases, each with thirty volunteers.

The fifteen bed, multi-facility hospital with be staffed by two full-time doctors, and between five to eight nurses, and will include the following services:

Laboratory facilities and health screening
Centre for Sickle Cell Anaemia
Counseling centre
24r-hour Pharmacy
Pregnancy Ward: anti-natal and post-natal care
Eye Care Centre
Ambulance Facility

The hospital facilities will be available to both tribal and non-tribal people from the local community, and will provide much needed local medical care.

Construction is now complete, and the hospital is currently being furnished and equipped. CTRD is happy to announce that the hospital will be inaugurated and opened on 28th November 2009.
