Volunteers

CTRD Trust is currently looking for volunteers to work on a variety of projects. Volunteers will live at the CTRD campus located amongst the beautiful and peaceful tea estates and forests of the Nilgiri hills, and will be provided with full board, lodgings and local transport.

Ideally we are seeking long term volunteers who can assist the administration team in producing written materials such as reports, information packs, grant applications to international funding and donor agencies, website material, newsletters and more. This position would be ideal for someone with a research interest in the work of development NGOs, and tribal and rural communities. The candidates’ time can be split between the needs of CTRD and their own research. CTRD is an ideal place to conduct research in surrounding tribal villages and to engage with the wider issues surrounding rural development.

We do also encourage and are able to place shorter term volunteers who could assist the CTRD team. We receive regular volunteers and academics from all over the world who have all contributed to CTRD in different ways. CTRD works in a variety of developmental fields including education, income generation, women’s empowerment through self help groups, as well as having a strong focus on health issues.

Health initiatives include medical camps, eye camps, screening and support for people afflicted with sickle cell anaemia, health awareness campaigns in local communities, and the establishment of CTRD Trust’s own Community Hospital.

We are currently looking for qualified doctors and nurses to work in CTRD’s Community Based Hospital, and volunteers with a medical background are very much needed and would be greatly appreciated.

In addition we are currently in the process of expanding our scope to focus on helping improve the lives of people with disabilities, through adopting a community based rehabilitation approach. Volunteering with CTRD provides a rich and rewarding experience, and you can be confident that your efforts will help make a tangible difference in improving the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised people in the tribal and rural communities of the Nilgiris.

The qualifications and skills we require varies according to the work which the volunteer wishes to get involved in. Typically we do not require specific qualifications (except for specialized medical placements), but the following should be used as a guide for office based roles: sssss
